WYHA Alum Matt Whitney wins an NCAA Championship
Saint Michael's College won the Northeast 10 Championship Saturday, March 8th before a packed house. In a tight game that was 2-1 with eight minutes remaining St. Mikes broke it open scoring 3 times in those last minutes on the way to a 5-1 victory over St. Anselm College. The Northeast 10 is the championship of Division 2 schools. An excited Whitney talked about the game NCAA championship and what it meant. "Winning a championship like this is a dream come true its every players hope from the day they are little and playing youth hockey." When asked about those days of youth hockey Whitney said," I learned to play hockey with WYHA. I remember the fun I had and how patient the coaches were. I remember scoring my first ever goal in Mays rink, Watertown is where I learned to love the game, thats the biggest lesson any kid can learn, have fun, love the game and anything is possible"
